About Me

My name is Shilenna Woodruff Porter, a brown girl from a small country town, Wellington, AL. I am the visionary founder and executive director of Another Chance Family Center.

In the face of life’s trials, I embraced the role of a single mother with unwavering courage and love. Raising four beautiful children bounded by the storms, I’ve witnessed the strength that lies within me. From conquering financial hardships to balancing multiple responsibilities, I have come out stronger, more resilient and deeply grateful. My story as a proud single mother is a testament to the power of perseverance, and I aspire to inspire others with my journey of resilience and determination.

Starting in 2015, I embarked on a journey to infuse purpose into my life. Initially, for a year, I served at Second Chance Inc., advocating with those that have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault. Afterward, I continued my advocacy at the YWCA Central Alabama for two years.

For the past three years, I’ve been dedicating myself to being a family and career coordinator at Family Services of North Alabama. Subsequently, it was during this period that I received divine inspiration for the vision of Another Chance Family Center. My last day at Family Services was Nov. 15, 2023. All of my time is now dedicated to Another Chance Family Center.

This vision is dear to me because I overcame life’s many challenges. Those life lessons equipped me to empathize with those whom society has stigmatized. My goal is to help rebuild sustainable lives by providing a safe space, information and tools to assist parents with maintaining life and stability.

I am honored to be the mother of four amazing young adults and the MiMi of seven adorable grandchildren who are the light of my life. My strong faith guides me, and I find strength in the power of prayer.
